2021 Jun 21

On June 17-18, 2021, Bureau Veritas (BV) was invited to attend the 3rd Asia Cybersecurity Innovation Summit, which was successfully held in Shanghai. Dr. Guo Yingkai, ICT Product Manager of Bureau Veritas System Certification Business Group, and Mr. Yang Hongbin, Industrial Control Cybersecurity Product Manager of Bureau Veritas Power and General Industry Business Group were invited to attend the event and shared their global perspectives on personal information security and GDPR as well as industrial control cybersecurity.

With the increase of digital infrastructures, emerging technologies such as digitalization, Internet of things, and artificial intelligence have allowed people to experience the convenience of the Internet, but have also increased the exposure to cybersecurity threats, making it more and more difficult and complex to protect network security. In China, the "new infrastructure" has become an overall direction of national development in the next few years; the core of the new infrastructure lies in the application of a new generation of information technologies including digitalization, 5G, big data, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, etc. However, cybersecurity must be guaranteed for the steady development of these digital technologies. Globally, most companies have placed cybersecurity at the forefront of their overall corporate strategic plan.

Dr. Guo Yingkai, ICT Product Manager of Bureau Veritas Certification Business Group, said: "In recent years, the frequently occurred violations of personal privacy of varied types have made privacy protection an important social issue. Information, as an important company asset, needs to be properly protected and managed. At the same time, amid the complex global economic and political situation, enterprises should also be fully prepared to tackle external challenges.

In response to the endless challenges to personal information security, BV can assist companies in sorting out the regulations and standards regarding personal privacy protection (e.g. GDPR, ISO 27701, ISO 27018) to help companies build a secure and reliable personal privacy protection management system."

Mr. Yang Hongbin, Industrial Control Cybersecurity Product Manager of Bureau Veritas Power and General Industry Business Group, said: "Information technologies are widely applied in the industrial field. This incurs many information security risks of industrial control system, including weak awareness of personnel industrial control security, lack of security in industrial control equipments, and inadequate implementation of industrial control cybersecurity precautions, despite the characteristics of the traditional ICS, such as connectivity and cooperative control. Based on the IEC 62443 standard, BV can help ICS owners, system integrators, product suppliers and service providers to improve the security compliance of their products and services, thus providing safer protection for industrial control systems."
